Setting Up an Account to Join the Chat

It is NOT necessary to have a YouTube account to simply view the Gala video, however if you'd like to set reminders from YouTube and/or participate in the Live Chat feature of the video premiere, you'll need to create an account.

If you already have a Google account or a Gmail email address, you can use that email and password to sign in to YouTube. Just visit www.youtube.com and click 'Sign In' in the top right corner, and enter that information. If you already have a YouTube account, we recommend that you either adjust your username to something close to your name, or introduce yourself when you enter the chat so that our staff and moderators know who to say 'hello' to!

If you do not have a Google account, you can create one on the 'Sign In' page.

1. Once on the 'Sign In' Page, click 'Create Account' in the bottom left corner and chose to create an account 'For myself.' You will be asked to enter your first and last name, your email address, and create a password that is 8 or more characters long with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
2. A verification code will be sent to the email address you provide that you will need to enter on the next page to verify your email address.
3. You will then be asked to add your birthday and gender. These fields are required, however the 'Gender' field allows for the answer 'I'd rather not say.'
4. After that, you will be prompted to create a username. We recommend something as close to your name as possible so that our staff and chat moderators can recognize you when you join in the chat and start typing. Don't forget to write your username and password down so you don't forget them on the 5th!
5.  Check or uncheck the next box with the unwieldy name: "Let others find my channel on YouTube if they have my email address." This gives you some control over who sees your videos or your YouTube page.
6. Check the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy box after you read all the legalese. You don’t need a law degree to understand this “fine print.”
7. If you leave any fields empty or if you choose a username that’s taken already, YouTube refreshes the page with red warning notes identifying the fields that need to be corrected before you can register.

Now that you're all set up, you can sign in to your account on the night of the Gala and get to chatting with your friends and fellow Vera House supporters!
